The bolero is a musical genre of Cuban origin , very popular in all Latin American countries .

At first, the bolero developed its language from the guitar "trios". In the 1930s, tropical orchestras appeared, then orchestras in the style big band and finally, the symphonic-type orchestrations that would bring refinement to the musical accompaniment of the bolero for some thirty years (1935-1965). Cuba and Mexico became a mecca for bolero singers and musicians.

For the massification of the bolero, the development of communication media such as radio, live television programs and movies with their actor-singers, as well as recordings on discs, whose printing evolved from 78 discs to of 45 RPM (revolutions per minute), until reaching those of 33, called "long duration", LD, LP or longplay. Another factor that influenced the rise of the bolero was the relative cultural isolation of Latin America in the years around and after World War I. This allowed the bolero to cultivate and develop without clear foreign competition that threatened it.

The "golden era" of the bolero coincides with the period of military dictatorships in the thirties, forties and fifties. The success of the bolero served the interests of these regimes, since it promoted a certain romantic alienation in a public that wanted to keep out of political issues.
