In the beginning, the term was used to designate a new way of singing and playing samba and came to be an "aesthetic reformulation" within the modern Rio de Janeiro urban samba. Based on a simple instrumentation and an elegant handling of dissonances, he developed his own language with an intimate lyricism. 1
It arose in the late 1950s thanks to musicians such as João Gilberto , Tom Jobim , Vinícius de Moraes and other young middle-class singers and composers from the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro . Over the years, bossa nova became one of the most influential movements in the history of Brazilian popular music, reaching worldwide projection.
